Why is it called Up-Cycle House?

Every project has to have a name. We wanted to simply name the house because that's what we want to do: to create a community house -  a place where people can live together for one day or for years. It's an up-cycle house because that's what we want try to do: upcycle.

Upcycling, also known as creative reuse, is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials, useless, or unwanted products into new materials or products of better quality and environmental value.

That's the definition of upcycling by Wikipedia and it has got some key words to us such as: process, transformation, environment. We don't see this purely as a material but also a spiritual concept. Turning sometihing unwanted into something beautiful of a greater value is a spiritual concept. 

We aim to restore the building itself into a eco-friendly beautiful and comfortable living space by using reclaimed materials as much as possible. The same thing we wish to do with the furniture and all the art we create and teach. We realize it's impossible to do this 100% but we would like to give it our best try. Upcycling will always be part of the life of this house.
